Arthur & Shawn present:
EVOLUTION
The future of stereotypes
TICKES ON SALE HERE
Kelowna – For the second year Arthur & Shawn are putting together a sophisticated cultural event meant to bridge the gap between Kelowna's closeted gay and lesbian community, and the mainstream straight culture. Evolution cultivates a spirit of tolerance and promotes mutual demystification of clichés related to subcultures, aiming to breach the invisible barriers between these distinct groups. This clash of the cultures is wrapped into a relaxed environment of fun, music, visuals, styling and other artistic expressions. Evolution rejects the mainstream expectations and invites to evolve free of dogma, challenge taboos, be who you really are, and empower yourself thru individuality. In a nutshell: nobody likes to be labeled, whether it's about sexual orientation, musical preference, fashion tendencies or other cultural interests. Evolution encourages vision and inspires positive change in our society. We speak the universal language of arts and creativity.
2007 brought the first edition of Evolution during Kelowna's annual Pride Celebrations. The event was a fantastic success, and about 200 people from all walks of life gathered in a club atmosphere to witness a spectacle of wearable art, live performances and visuals provided by local talent.
This summer Evolution is once more Kelowna's Pride Week eye candy. The emphasis will be on the individual styling of the participants. Everyone is part of the show, as opposed to simply witnessing it as a spectator. The theme is "the future of stereotypes" – take a typical look from the past and evolve it into the future.
The event kicks of at 7pm with the styling lounge, an opportunity to get in the mood, and also get styled for FREE by professional hair and make-up artists. Whether you're uninspired or have no time for it, now you can simply relax while someone upgrades your looks. Hairspray & glitters, body drawings, accessories… the more unique the better! There will music, visuals and food at the bar.
At 9pm the main event kicks off. Kelowna's fabulous JGirl together with Luke Out will vibrate the dance floor, accompanied by visual art projections and performances. Everyone is a star in this show! In fact, there will be prizes for the most outstanding character/outfit! This is the time to see and be seen, make a statement, inspire and get inspired.
Evolution is held Friday June 27th at the Habitat in Kelowna. Tickets are $25 at the door and $20 on presale and for students with ID. Show up early, as downtown Kelowna observes strict closing times. Although Evolution addresses primarily the GLBT community, everyone open minded and not easily offended is welcome. No jeans please, this is a wild costume party, dress to impress. Enjoy!
Many thanks to the volunteers, participant talent and sponsors for making this event possible!
